ALPHA PHI AT SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY

ALPHA PHI AT SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY

Who We Are

Who We Are

Alpha Phi International Fraternity is more than a Greek organization. It’s a community of close-knit women supporting one another for a lifetime. Established in 1872, Alpha Phi has 175 collegiate chapters in North America and more than 310,000 members committed to lifelong friendships, leadership, academic excellence, personal growth and community involvement! Alpha Phis constantly work toward improvement and growth, both as individuals and as an organization.

Our History

Our History

In 1872, the first women to attend Syracuse University decided that it was not enough to merely participate in the classroom. Denied admission to the men’s fraternities, several of these women chose to create their own fraternity for women. From the beginning, they envisioned an expansive sisterhood, and their leadership and organizational practices set the tone for the Alpha Phi of today. Much like our present-day membership, the Founders were a group of curious women who did not back down from a challenge — women who had a vision for our sisterhood and the confidence in one another to make an impact.

Alpha Phi in Connecticut and New England

Alpha Phi in Connecticut and New England

Alpha Phi established our first chapter in the state of Connecticut in 2008 at the University of Connecticut. Throughout our history, more than 4,780 Connecticuters have joined Alpha Phi and made a lasting mark on our organization. Fairfield has long been an important city to Alpha Phi, and local alumnae are all thrilled at the prospect of supporting a new Alpha Phi chapter at Sacred Heart University. We have 5,363 Alpha Phis living within 30 miles of Sacred Heart University and 17,319 within 60 miles. More than 13,633 Alpha Phis call beautiful New England home, and Alpha Phi has 11 collegiate chapters in the region. While the culture at each institution is different, the Alpha Phis have found ways to amplify the campus culture and traditions while shaping personal undergraduate experiences that empower women leaders.

Alpha Phi has chapters at three schools in your new football conference, the Coastal Athletic Association, including: Maine, New Hampshire and Towson. Our chapters at Baylor, Clemson, Duke, Villanova and Texas Tech all have more than 200 members and do not have a house our members live in. Our staff and volunteers have extensive experience supporting large chapters.

Alpha Phi Extension

Alpha Phi Extension

In the last eighteen years, Alpha Phi has established 33 new chapters and prioritized integrating Alpha Phi into each campus community and student body to ensure success. Of these 33 new chapters, these are the ones we've recently established with more than 200 members: Ole Miss, Alabama, Clemson, Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, LSU, Baylor, Kentucky, Florida State, Florida, Utah, UNC Chapel Hill and Georgia Tech. We've also established many in the Northeast in that time period, including Connecticut, Yale, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon, Stevens Institute of Technology and WPI.

We will bring the unique experiences we have learned from working with these new chapters to Sacred Heart and promise to personalize these experiences for Sacred Heart Alpha Phis.

We are committed to providing the resources necessary to support a large new chapter at Sacred Heart and to ensure its successful integration into your community.
